From a Tiny Acorn

Thomas Bush 1749 -

When I started to put my family tree on the Genes Reunited web site I was contacted by a lady called Margaret Eastwood. She has been building her tree for years and although she’s not a Hyde or Gowers she has explored lots of different lines and that’s how we found that we are distant relatives due to my Great Great Grand Mother Charlotte.

Following my Mother’s line and with the help of Margaret’s tree I have been able to find my oldest ‘confirmed’ ancestor, Thomas Bush, My Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather.

He was born in 1749 and baptised the same year in the village church of St Mary’s and St.Lawrence, Great Waltham, Essex, but the parish records for the time leave us in doubt and unable to confirm his parents, as there are two possibilities.

We believe that Thomas was either the son of Walker Bush and Mary, baptised on29th May 1749 or he was the son of Thomas Bush and Horsenail, baptised on 10th September 1749.

Thomas married Elizabeth Raven (c1749) on 20th December 1770 in the same church as he was baptized in and the records state that he was living in the village of High Easter, Essex at the time possibly because he was away from home working.

They had eight children, 7 boys and one girl, all baptized in the same village church.

Philemon Bush - Born 1772 - Baptised 17th May 1772

John Bush - Born 1774 - Baptised 8th May 1774

Benjamin Bush - Born 1776 - Baptised 11th October 1776

Henry Bush - Born 1778 - Baptised 27th April 1778

Elizabeth Bush - Born 1780 - Baptised 27th March 1780

James Bush - Born 1783 - Baptised 14th December 1783

Thomas Bush - Born 1785 - Baptised 17th April 1785

Joseph Bush - Born 1788 - Baptised 15th February 1788
